In 2008, a film titled Ironman was released worldwide. It was loved by all, fans and critics alike. However, none of the fans at that time had any idea how big of a phenomenon this single film had ushered in. Fast-forward to 2019; Marvel Studios have released 21 films within the franchise, making it the most successful film franchise of all time with an estimate of 18 billion dollars earned worldwide. These are staggering numbers for a genre which was deemed to be unfit for cinema some ten odd years ago.
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as it is appropriately called, is now a success factory. Even lesser known superheroes such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-man, and Black Panther have had successful outings. It is safe to say that all gambles have paid off for the MCU. From Ironman to Captain Marvel (the latest character in this franchise), all these stories lead up to a single point of culmination – Avengers Endgame.
Scheduled to release on April 26th of this year, Endgame is much more than a film; it’s a festival in itself. A global event in which all the favourite superheroes of people around the world will battle it out against the big baddie of the MCU – Thanos. Ever since the events of the previous Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War, the fans have been left disarrayed. There has been massive speculation about the next film, which has been kept under the wraps.
Russo brothers, the directors of the upcoming film, have revealed next to nothing about their monumental project. The trailers have been ambiguous in terms of speculation, but successful in terms of inducing excitement.
With less than a month to go, the excitement is at its peak. Fans all around the world are pre-booking their tickets. The film, even before its release, is speculated to out-gross its predecessor, Infinity War – which crossed the threshold of 2 billion dollars (worldwide).
Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, has called this entire collection of 22 films as Infinity Saga. Avengers Endgame will be the final film of the Infinity Saga. This means all these films were chapters in this one book called Infinity Saga. And there is no doubt that Marvel Studios will be working on the next book, which in itself will be a massive collection of films to come. There is no stopping the Avengers now; this behemoth has taken over.
