The importance of education cannot be over-emphasized in the lives of humanity. Education is the bedrock of scientific discoveries and technological advancements. The success of any educational institution depends on the collective effort of its stakeholders which are summarized below:
The school management (SM) is a significant stakeholder in an educational institution. The school management provides a serene environment and adequate facilities needed by teachers and learners. The SM hire qualified and dutiful teaching and non-teaching staff, oversees all aspects of the school system, ensures effective conflict management, anticipates problems and is proactive in dealing with them. Furthermore, SM sets up school’s ethical standards and provides proper monitoring, conducts periodic review of the school’s progress, works toward meeting the school's objectives, and designs a good plan for the academic success of students and welfare of teachers.
Parents must be actively involved in students' education. They provide moral, financial and material support. They should take part in all activities that can assist in the education of their children, work hand-in-hand with the school and other parents in the interests of their children's education. They should also support the school’s policies, give suggestions that can improve the school, monitor their children at home and teach them good morals. They should inform the school staff about anything they notice in their children’s behaviour which may hamper academic success.
A teacher is someone who imparts knowledge. A teacher is a critical stakeholder in the field of education. The teacher usually carries the blame of any irregularities that come from other stakeholders. In the 21st century, a teacher is expected to be sound in digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration skills, self-motivation, offer personalized instructions, and create student-centered learning which is a method of teaching that puts the students' interests first during learning. A teacher must monitor the students during class exercises, do corrections and make sure that all students are carried along, ensure that each student participates actively in the classroom, study each of the students and adopt different methods that will enable the slow-learners to understand their lessons.
Furthermore, the sign of effective teaching is when the slow-learners and dullards in the class improve their performance and become brilliant. If the bright students in a classroom maintain their brilliance and the dullard do not improve, this is not a sign of effective teaching.
The effort of these three stakeholders should be channelled toward the students. To acquire sound education, a student must be obedient, respectful, punctual and comply with behavioural expectations. He/she should also measure up to academic expectations. This is a willingness to learn both individually and as a group.
Finally, it has been confirmed that if all the four stakeholders live up to expectations, students will not perform woefully in their academic pursuit.
